A retaining wall is a permanent answer to a slope that’s working against you — a hillside that’s eroding, a yard you can’t use, water pushing toward the house. We build segmental block walls (Versa-Lok) and natural limestone walls, with the stairs, pillars and caps that make them usable, and the drainage behind them that makes them last. Segmental block walls (Versa-Lok)
Engineered block walls for hillsides, terraced yards, and anywhere the ground needs to be held. Versa-Lok is a pinned system — the courses lock together — so the wall carries real load and stays straight. We build it on a compacted base with gravel backfill and a drain line behind the wall, because a wall without drainage is a wall that leans.
Natural limestone
Natural limestone block offers exceptional durability and timeless aesthetic appeal. For steps, freestanding walls, and rustic edging or drystack, limestone is the material that looks like it belongs in Kansas. Heavier, set by machine, and built to outlast the house.
Stairs, pillars & caps
Walls: often for stabilizing hillsides, also used to create tiered gardens, terraced yards, a seated wall around a fire pit, or to define outdoor spaces. Stairs: frequently incorporated for safe and accessible movement between levels. Pillars: also known as piers or columns, used to enhance both the structural integrity and the look of a wall. Caps: protect the wall from water damage and provide a finished, level surface — bullnose, sandstone or graphix caps for a more elegant look.
Erosion control & drainage
Most walls we build start with a water problem. A four-level terraced Versa-Lok wall along the house, the steep side slope regraded to correct the water flow, downspouts buried and routed away from the house, and a landscape bed with river rock to tie it together — that’s one job, and it’s the shape most of them take. We fix the slope and the water at the same time, because fixing one without the other doesn’t hold.
Walls with fence or railing
A wrap-around concrete sidewalk with black aluminum fence railing on top of the wall, for daily usability and safety. Where a wall creates a drop, we finish it with the railing or fence that makes it safe to use — designed in from the start, not bolted on after.
